How does COVID-19 treatment work?
Your doctor might give you a prescription medicine to fight the COVID-19 virus. This might be a pill, or a shot given to you by a doctor or nurse. The medicine stops the virus from spreading in your body, so you don’t get more sick.
COVID-19 treatment can make you feel a little sick for a few days before you get better. You might experience things like:
- Stomach pain
- Change in your sense of taste
- Achy body
- Higher blood pressure
- Extremely tired
- Headaches
If your doctor does not think you need prescription COVID-19 treatment, you can treat COVID-19 symptoms at home. You can:
- Take medicine like Tylenol or Advil: To ease fevers, aching and pain
- Drink lots of water: To avoid being dehydrated
- Get extra rest: To help your body fight the virus
After getting COVID-19 you should stay home for at least five days. If afterwards you have little to no symptoms, you should wear a mask for another five days if you are around other people so that you don’t spread COVID-19 to the people you live with.
The only way to know if you have COVID-19 is to get tested. You can find locations near you here or buy an at-home COVID-19 test kit at any local pharmacy. If you test positive for your COVID-19 test, make sure to report that to your supervisor with a photo if needed and stay home.
